MIDDLETOWN POLICE CHARGE 2 IN BURGLARY April 16, 2009 Contact: Sgt Joseph Tobin (845)343-3151 On April 15, 2009, at approximately 12:20pm, the City of Middletown Police Department responded to a possible Burglary of a residence on Starhaven Ave. An alert neighbor notified this agency after seeing suspicious activity at the residence. The neighbor observed a white BMW parked in the driveway of the residence on Starhaven Ave. The occupants of that vehicle were observed entering the home for a short period of time, then leaving with items inside of their hooded sweatshirts. The neighbor provided police with a partial state of New York license plate on the suspect vehicle. Upon arrival it was confirmed by officers that a burglary occurred. During the course of the investigation, Detective Jason Jennings and Officer Joseph Nuzzo recalled conducting traffic stops in the recent past involving a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. Using the Middletown Police Department’s in house records management system,IMPACT, Detective Jennings, Detective Thomas Miller, Detective Matt Johnson and Officer Mike Brownstein were able to locate a potential match to the suspect vehicle. Further investigation led officers to believe that the suspects had switch vehicles and were now operating a 1998 Honda Civic, bearing State of New York registration EGZ8228. A BOLO was transmitted for that vehicle. At approximately 5:45pm, Sgt. Joseph Tobin while on patrol, observed the suspect vehicle traveling on Fulton Street in the City of Middletown. Sgt. Tobin conducted a traffic stop, assisted by Officer Mike Ribeiro and Officer Jason Berman. The two male subjects occupying the vehicle matched the description of subjects seen at the Starhaven Ave burglary. The occupants of the vehicle, Anthony Valera and Harrichan Rabinderanath, were transported to the City of Middletown Police Department for further investigation. Subsequent to the investigation, Valera was charged with Burglary in the Second degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Harrichan was charged with Burglary in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fifth degree. The department will make a media statement at 1:15PM today at the Middletown Police Department, 2 James Street Middletown New York.
