POLICE TAKE GUN OFF STREET, ARREST MANAugust 25, 2009 The City of Middletown Police Department has arrested a 19 year old for possessing a defaced handgun late yesterday afternoon. Julian Watson, of Summitfield Apartments in Middletown, was arrested after police received a report of a group of males including one male with a gun standing in front of the Department of Motor Vehicle office on King Street. Upon arrival Officer Aaron Welch observed four males standing near the corner of King St and Center Street fitting the given description. When Officer Welch confronted the subjects, Watson dropped a handgun to the ground. Officers were able to take Watson into custody without incident. The other subjects were briefly detained and than released. The recovered handgun was a loaded Cobra Enterprise .380 cal semi-automatic. The gun had the serial number defaced. The gun will be sent to the State Police lab for analysis. Watson was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, a Class C Felony and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, a Class D Felony. He was arraigned in Middletown City Court and sent to the Orange County Jail on $10,000 bail. He is due back in City Court on August 28. The City of Middletown Police Department, which is the second largest police department in Orange County, started serving the residents of Middletown in 1888.
