VEHICLE STOP LEADS TO DRUG ARREST

City of Middletown Police arrested a Middletown resident after he was found in possession of 9.3 grams of crack cocaine early this morning.

Joseph Calderon, 30, was a passenger in a car being driven by Jonathan Edwards. Police Officer Patrick Gass stopped the duo at 2:43 AM after they were observed driving on Dolson Ave in a car that had defective license plate lights. Once stopped, officers observed an open container of alcohol in the vehicle and learned that Edwards had a suspended driver’s license. Officer Patrick Cunningham observed on the floor of the vehicle at the feet of Calderon an off white substance. After being placed under arrest, Calderon was found to be in possession of a cigar also containing an off white substance. Both substances tested positive for Cocaine.

Once back at the police station it was discovered that Calderon had an addition package in his underwear that contained a white substance. This substance also tested positive for cocaine and weighed 9.3 grams.

Calderon was charged with Criminal Possession Controlled Substance 4th degree, a Class C Felony, two counts of Criminal Possession Controlled Substance 7th degree, Class A misdemeanors and driving in a vehicle with an open container of alcohol.

Edwards was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, a misdemeanor.

Both are awaiting arraignment in City Court.

The City of Middletown Police Department, which is the second largest police department in Orange County, started serving the residents of Middletown in 1888.
