POLICE CAPTURE PAROLE AFTER STANDOFF September 19, 2009 City of Middletown Police captured an escaped parole after a 2 ½ hour standoff on Broad Street Friday afternoon. Middletown Police were called to assist the Monroe Police Department who were searching for Donald Carrington, a parole who escaped from Monroe Police Thursday evening. Carrington, 40, was previously in prison for robbery and burglary in connection with the 1990 slaying of Alex Bodnar, a retired New York City transit cop. Monroe Police were searching for Carrington in the New and Broad Street area after receiving a tip. Monroe Police originally told Middletown Police that Carrington was hiding in a house at 8 Broad Street. Middletown Police later obtained information that Carrington was down the street hiding at 24 Broad Street. Carrington was taken into custody by the Middletown Police Tactical Response Team without incident. After being processed on a warrant for Escape 1st degree, a Class “D” Felony, he was turned over to Monroe Police Middletown Police were assisted by the New York State Police and Orange County Sheriffs Department. The City of Middletown Police Department, which is the second largest police department in Orange County, started serving the residents of Middletown in 1888.
