POLICE ARREST PAROLE FLEEING HOME BURGLARY
September 29, 2009

City of Middletown Police arrested a parole from the Town of Wallkill after he fled from a burglary of an occupied home late last night.

Police arrested Jose Martinez, 25, and charged him with Burglary 2nd, a Class C Felony and Resisting Arrest, a Class A Misdemeanor. Martinez is living at the Howard Johnson Motel in the Town of Wallkill. He was released in March from prison where he had been serving a sentence for a Burglary that he committed in 2003.

At approximately 11:45 last night police received a 911 call from a woman who said that a man had broken into her house on Bonnell Place. The caller, a prior burglary victim, had recently installed a camera system. She was able to observe from her bedroom the suspect in her first floor computer room. As the suspect fled the house through a window, Police Officers Patricia Doremus and George Neilson arrived. Officers observed the suspect next to the house. A foot pursuit ensued. Officer Jason Berman and his K-9 partner Kilo arrived and joined in the foot pursuit. After refusing to stop for officers, the suspect was apprehended by K-9 Kilo.

“All of the officers involved, along with our K-9 Kilo, did a swift and professional job in preventing Martinez’s escape, said Middletown Police Chief Matthew Byrne. “Martinez is a parolee with a previous conviction for burglary. Once again, our patrol officers did their part in protecting the Middletown community. In addition, the victim deserves much of the credit for making a timely report and helping to make this arrest possible.”

Martinez is being held in the Middletown Police lockup pending arraignment in City Court.

The City of Middletown Police Department, which is the second largest police department in Orange County, started serving the residents of Middletown in 1888.
