TWO ARRESTED IN SATURDAY ARMED ROBBERY

City of Middletown Police arrested two Middletown residents after they robbed a man at gunpoint early Saturday morning.

David Williams, 22, and Jordan Mabee, 19 were charged with Robbery 1st degree, a Class B felony, Criminal Possesion of a Firearm, a Class B felony and Criminal Use of a Firearm, a Class B felony, after they robbed a Middletown man on Grand Ave at 12:25am Saturday. In addition Mabee was charged with Resisting Arrest, a Class A misdemeanor. During the robbery a handgun used by the defendants was fired. No one was injured by the gunshot.

The handgun and items taken from the victim were recovered by officers.

After fleeing the scene the defendants were observed by Officer Mike McDonald. He was able to secure Williams but Mabee was able to flee. Mabee was apprehended by K-9 Ivan after a brief foot chase. Mabee suffered minor injuries. He was transported to Orange Regional Medical Center where he was treated.

"This is another example of the great job that are police canines do," said Middletown Police Chief Matthew Byrne. "They are of great benefit to the residents of Middletown. In this case they prevented a dangerous felon from getting away."

Both defendants were arraigned in Middletown City Court. Both were sent to Orange County Jail. Bail was set at $20,000 cash, $40,000 bond for both defendants.

The City of Middletown Police Department, which is the second largest police department in Orange County, started serving the residents of Middletown in 1888.
