The records division is open Monday-Friday from 8AM-4PM. The division is responsible for the filing and maintenance of all police records. The members of the division conduct records checks and issue handicap permits. In addition the division assists with the filling of Freedom of Information (FOIL) requests and accident report requests.
You may purchase a copy of an accident report for $10. We attempt to have all police accident reports ready within 7 business days of the accident date. However, occasionally there are unforeseen problems with the report and or other correction problems. You may speak to a Supervisor if your report is not ready after 7 business days from the accident date. You may call or e-mail the records division to make sure that the report is ready. If you do not want to pay the $10 fee you may make a Freedom of Information (FOIL) request through the City Clerks office.
All other request for reports must be done through a Freedom of Information (FOIL) request. These requests must be made through the City Clerks office. There is a 25 cent per page cost for FOIL requests to cover the cost of copying. The law allows the city to take up to five (5) days to respond to a request of records. If you have further questions you can contact the City Clerk’s office at 346-4166.
